Kawasaki Precision Machinery (KPM) (UK) was established in 1994 and is the only European manufacturing site within the entire Kawasaki group.

Today the Kawasaki brand is synonymous with quality and innovation in hydraulic pumps, motors, valves and complete hydraulic systems across a whole spectrum of applications.

KPM supplies quality equipment for mobile, industrial, construction, agriculture and marine applications. This year, the business is celebrating its 25th year of having a strong and stable business here in Plymouth. In 1994, there were 180 employees on site producing a sales revenue of £13.5m and in 2018 265 employees produced £57m sales revenue, a 186% productivity improvement in 25 years.

Originally the site was used to manufacture Staffa motors for many years, first by Brown and Sharpe and then by Vickers.  When Kawasaki acquired the business from Vickers, they expanded the products manufactured at the site to include axial piston pumps in addition to the original Staffa motor.  Since acquiring the Plymouth facility, Kawasaki have continuously invested in new plant and equipment in order to enhance our capacity and capability and in 2018 we invested £3.4m.

We have received ‘Best in Class’ audits from major OEMS, such as JCB, John Deere, Terex and Volvo in 2018 and been referred to as a benchmark site for hydraulic manufacturing in Europe.
