The fastest growing sector in the South West, with rapidly developing tech clusters. Exeter is one of the lead growth locations for fintech business and competing globally. 

Environmental Science

A 400% increase in the number of individuals working in environmental Science over the last 10 years, involved in climate change response, ecological surveys, assessments, consultancies, flood responses etc. 

Professional services

Exeter is the 2nd largest centre for legal and engineering services in the South West.  The range and number of services is expected to grow further in the next ten years.

Advanced Engineering incl. Aerospace

Continued growth and specialism expected in this key Devon sector, in line with targets set out in the 2021 HotSW Build Back Better Plan focussing on clean growth.

Specialised Manufacturing

Manufacturing employs nearly 10% of Devon’s workforce and is anticipated to grow further increasing the demand for specialist skills.

Throughout Devon this sector is steadily growing, recently contributing around £1Billion annually to the Devon economy.

Devon continues to expand the export of knowledge and products around the world, contributing over £750Million to the UK economy.
