It was a love of the outdoors that drew Kate and her family to Devon – the dramatic landscapes of Dartmoor and Exmoor, and the tranquillity that she’s found living in East Devon’s Blackdown Hills.

“I love it here! We’re running a vibrant and exciting tech company in one of the most beautiful parts of the world!” So says Kate Doodson, joint CEO of Cosmic, when talking about her love of Cosmic, of Devon and the work she gets to do jointly with the rest of the team at the award-winning social enterprise.

But it’s the thriving tech industry, boosted by rapidly growing hubs in Exeter and Plymouth, that have helped Kate to develop a hugely successful career in a cutting-edge environment. A steering group member for Tech South West, she is regularly called upon to speak at key events and run sessions regionally and nationally on everything from transformation and future digital trends to cyber security and strategic digital marketing.

“Devon and the South West has a real thirst for tech and a desire to achieve improved productivity through the use of digital technology,” says Kate, who moved from the South East of England to the South West. “This is coupled with strong enthusiasm for green and sustainable economies and cultures”.

“I moved here and discovered a culture of collaboration, with businesses looking to support each other and help us all to achieve growth and success. It’s definitely helped create an environment that has seen Cosmic develop strong roots in the region over 25 years, becoming a thriving business working across the South West and nationally.”

And when the working day is over? “Running in the woods, walking the dog over the hills and strolling out on to Dartmoor. It’s that freedom and sense of space all around us that allows me to escape the digital world for a moment, enjoy some of the best scenery in Britain, and gives me the headspace to think creatively. Like I said, I love it!”
